i feel guilty about getting another dog, please help?
my dog was killed about three months ago and i got another dog the day before it became three months. my old dog was my best friend and i miss him so much. i don't have any closure because of the way he died. about a month after he died my grandmother died. normally i would have turned to my dog for comfort but he obviously wasn't there. i really love my new dog but sometimes it just feels weird. i know it isn't going to be easy to accept that she is taking his place and i'm already kind of over it but any advice?

i have had a dog before him but she was put to sleep. he was killed and ripped apart by three other dogs. so it's different when it isn't planned.
it's not that i feel she is taking his place as much as ithe fact that it is weird to have her in my arms because he is so woven into my heart.
we also rescued her so i feel good about that.
I know how you feel. My dog died a few months ago from cancer. It was sort of planned in the sence we knew he was going to die that week. He was very sick and not acting like himself. I had him since i moved to Virginia and it was really hard to lose him. The way he went was horrible and i was the one to find him. Something about the cancer spreading rapidly through his body and making arteries exploded cut to the chase i found him in a pool of his own blood and the sad thing was he wasn't dead yet. He said his good byes by using his last bit of energy to crawl outside to the tree he layed under all the time in the summer.
It makes me cry to think about him. Before Max died we got another puppy. I can't remember why actually but it was one of the best decisions we made. Because Max spent 3 months with Titan and trained him. Older dogs do that with young dogs and it was like Titan was his pup even though they look completly different. Even today i see pieces of Max in Titan from the way he protects us to the way he chews a bottle. I'm happy i got my puppy.
My dog Max was their for me and my older brother through it all. When my grandpa died i was able to cry into my Maxs shoulder and when my other grandpa died a month after the first Max was their ready to let me lean on him. He was their through growing up even though i still am a kid. I found myself after Max's death looking for that shoulder to cry on and i found it in Titan; Max's puppy.
This is all what brought my family to get another puppy. I do occasioaly feel guilty about getting him. This puppy wasn't picked by it's own cuteness but by it's resblemse to Max as a puppy. I know my brother is getting him specificly because of this.
It makes me sad when i cry because i miss that shoulder and that black dog who use to run around in the backyard. Who would be the kindest pup unless you threatened us. I miss my Maxie.
