what size head do i need for my pet trimmer for a shih tzu?
Depends how long you want your shit zue. I'm a dog groomer, and varying on the size and build of a shit zue we do all sorts. You need to ask yourself, do you want a skirt? eyebrows or a fringe? how long would you like the leg feathers? Scissor tail? Rounded feet or cocker?
The numbers from places like argos are completely different from actual grooming blades, no. 1mm is for poodle feet and faces, 2mm for poodles or alot of people ask for it on bi colour cosker spaniels, 3mm is the shortest you should go for a thick dense coat of most small breeds, such as a snauzers back, cockers, cavaliers and a few shit zues.
Then theres the 5mm. But then you get addons, so the 3mm no. 3 or the 2mm no. 3
The 7mm is classed as a winter clip, but again i have no idea what that is in argos or the plastic ones you can buy from the shops.
Plus plastic ones are awful for clipping!! You get lines, it can snag easily on any small knot or tangle.
Just remember the bigger the blade the more dangerous it is for catching your dog.
Can't you try taking him to a groomers once and get an idea? Cuz you shouldn't just go on in there. Not fair for your dog.
